Nina Maza, also known as ‘Mami,’ is a beloved member of our Born To Drum Community. Mami is the biological mother of Nydia Liberty Mata, and embraces all of us as her children. Born in Havana, Cuba in 1927, Mami came to the NYC in the mid 1950’s (before the Cuban revolution) with “$25 in her pocketâ€. Even at the age of 87 Mami is “the first one up and the last one downâ€. She is a loving inspiration to all of us about graceful and joyous living.
